I ran Spy++ on this and the only difference I could see in the mouse messages was that a true double-*click* results in a WM_MOUSEMOVE in between the WM_LBUTTONUP and subsequent WM_MOUSEACTIVATE messages, whereas a double-*tap* seems to skip that: Otherwise, it simply doesn't see the second tap of the double-tap. Running xev shows that the second tap is simply not detected by the guest at all, UNLESS the delay between them is long enough that the host sees them as two individual clicks, but the guest sees them as double clicks. The weird thing is, using Spy++ on Windows, I don't see any difference in the clicks, so I'm not sure how these could be getting processed differently. This is in contrast with the double-*click* on the touchpad, which works fine. I even tried removing Guest Additions on the Ubuntu guest and as others have noted, nothing changed.

So I also have this problem (triple tap works, double doesn't) on an Elantech touchpad on a Lenovo as well, on every guest (5.1.22) on a Windows 8.1 host. However, that downgrades host OS trackpad functionality as a side effect.

I wonder if somehow VirtualBox can either emulate this firmware functionality or potentially even disable the precision trackpad functionality within the guest OS.Дisabling the Advanced trackpad functionality in the UEFI/BIOS allows VirtualBox guest OS trackpad to function correctly. Hopefully this is something that can be resolved since these precision trackpads are quite widespread. The only problem is that you have to get used to double-tapping quick again once back in the host machine. It takes a bit to get used to it but it does work everytime. Think of your typical double-tap which is quite fast, and simply add a small pause in between. Tap once - split second pause - Tap second time to complete double-tap.

Spacing the double-tap out just slightly works well. I have found a temporary workaround for the time being. In my case, on an Acer Aspire E 11 (ES1-111-C1MX). I am experiencing this precision trackpad issue as well.
